[ band ]

2 Skinnee J's are a Brooklyn, NY, based band that delivers a high energy burst of rock, hip-hop, funk, punk and techno. Their unusual mixture of hip-hop beats, alterna-rock melodies, New Wave sounds, and rap make for an energetic and engaging live show. Formed at Columbia University in the early 1990s, the J's have gone through numerous personnel changes in their eleven year history; the five musicians that make up the J's now have been together for almost five years. (For those of you who are curious about how the band was formed, check out a brief history of the J's.)

The J's released two independent CD's - "Return of the New and Improved" in 1996 and "Sing, Earthboy, Sing!" in 1997. After much hard work and perserverence they were signed to Capricorn Records on April 25, 1997, and their first major label CD, "$upermercado," was released on April 14, 1998. After Capricorn folded in December of 2000, the J's were sold to Volcano Records and released "Volumizer" on March 19, 2002. They split with Volcano shortly thereafter, and opted to release their latest album, "Sexy Karate," on the Stumpy-owned Dolphins vs. Unicorns Records on April 8, 2003.
