From the Extraordinary Mind of A.J. "Stumpy" Johnson Comes Bad News and Good News If there was ever any doubt, it was erased this weekend. When I witnessed what were easily the 3 worst shows ever performed by the J's, in spite of my presence, I knew he had returned... when I learned that the release of our next album, Volumizer, was delayed until at least February, I knew... I KNEW that Sgt. Stiletto was back at last... Well unfortunately for him, he is about to come up against a plan so foolproof, so well-concieved, so brimming with my genius that even he couldn't foil it; I call it the "ingeniusly well-conceived foolproof plan" and it will first be implemented in late November as the J's put their road shoes on again to roam the country. The plan is based on my observation that virtually every band that has opened for the J's has gone on to surpass them in success, popularity and (most importantly) record sales. The examples abound -- Incubus, Kottonmouth Kings and Everlast to name a few. So... I have arranged to have the J's open for themselves. This will succed on two levels: first, it will provide a kind of "moving target" that will so thoroughly confuse Stiletto he won't know which band to attack, and second, it will thoroughly confuse the public into believing they are buying someone else's album and asking for someone else's single to be played on the radio. As an extra measure of insurance, the October issues of J-14, CMJ and Jane magazines feature reviews of Volumizer that can only help to pad sales when it finally comes out. We are truly sorry. Unfortunately for us, Capricorn, our label, has been going through tremendous difficulties in the past few months. The day after releasing our first single 'Stockholm Love' to radio, they informed us that they were leaving their parent company, Island/Def-Jam to try and find a new partner. As of yet they have been unsuccessful. So while our album was completed in late Spring, Capricorn is unable to support its release until they find a new financial partner. We were first told that the album would be delayed until September 12, then told October 10. They informed us two weeks ago that the album now will not be released until February 2001, barring any further delays. Since they had told us to hold off on touring until the album's release, we missed the window of opportunity to play shows in September and October. Now that they release is so far off, we are better able to plan once again and will be touring for most of the month of November. We hope to see you there.
