Dateline 2001

As many of you already know, the J's old label, Capricorn, was recently sold to Volcano records. I know that the prevailing wisdom is that Volcano was simply the highest bidder and thus was the winner of the Capricorn sweepstakes, but that isn't true. I insisted on Volcano records because I felt their name was "hot" and "explosive" and that with them the J's would be "burning up the charts." It was all the result of my discovery of the power of language, a discovery which has spawned my all new Etymological Actualization Program," or "E.A.P." Language has an innate power which affects every one of us daily, whether we know it or not. Take the 2 Skinnee J's, for instance. While their lack of talent doesn't help, a big reason for their failure thus far is their name. The Number 2 is way too low to be taken seriously; a much higher number (say, 75,000,000) would be better. And the word "skinnee," although misspelled for no apparent reason, still evokes images of scrawny, pathetic weaklings. I know what you're thinking... "But the J's ARE scrawny pathetic weaklings!" This is true, but it underscores my point. After all, the 10,000 Maniacs neither numbered in the thousands nor were they actually maniacs but they still managed to put out a platinum album. In fact, the J's, by extension, would have been nearly guaranteed a multi-platinum album if they had called themselves the "75,000,000 Gargantuloid X's" (X is a much more powerful letter than J). A more concrete example for all of you skeptics would be me. After my elevation to "OptimusPrime" status I quintupled both my profits and my circle of acquaintances. Add to that the unprecedented respect, love and fear band members have shown me and you can see that my program sells itself. If you are ready to be greater that you ever have been before, than you are ready for the Etymological Affirmation Program appendix to my original Championship Program materials, just $119.95 while supplies last. Don't be the weakling in a crowd of warriors....

The Official Update....

So. We finally had our first meeting with our new label to figure out where we fit into their plans. There was good news. And there was bad news. The good news is that they are excited to work with us and have us release our next record on their label. The bad news, however, is that they want us to return to the studio to record some tracks that we had been working on during the time when we were waiting to find out what was going to happen to our record label. This means that our next album will likely be released sometime this summer. In the meantime, we have convinced them to let us release an inexpensive E.P. ($5-$7) that we will sell only at shows and online. It will likely have remixes of Champions done by Basehead's Mike Ivey, remixes of The Whammy done by ex-Beastie DJ Hurricane, as well as two previously unreleased tracks and hopefully a reedited Quicktime version of a the Riot Nrrrd video (which up until this point has only been seen in our houses.) We hope to have the e.p. ready for our tour in late March.... In the meantime, thanks again for sticking with us. We've had some great shows recently and look forward to the week we're spending in Virginia. See you soon in a town near you.
